UKhamba Pottery Co-Operative

BLVCK BLOCK collaborated with the National Movement of Rural Women (NMRW) and uKhamba Pottery Co-operative as it was determined it would be mutually beneficial for the organisations. Ukhamba would benefit from the skills and capabilities of BLVCK BLOCK’s team in fostering the arts through education and up-skilling. This program empowers women in the community by combining hands-on art training with practical financial literacy and product development training. The sessions aim to provide a platform where participants can develop artistic skills, particularly in portraiture, while gaining knowledge in managing and pricing their crafts. Through collaborative workshops, the women were encouraged to integrate their personal stories into their art, fostering a supportive environment where storytelling and self-expression play central roles.

Beyond skill-building, the program seeks to cultivate confidence and inspire entrepreneurial thinking, with discussions about organising a community market and encouraging younger generations to view art as a viable skill and career path. With support from a dedicated team of artists and facilitators, the program emphasises mutual learning and guidance, ensuring each participant feels valued and inspired throughout the journey.
