Mbali Mdikane

Mbali Nqobile Mdikane is a visual artist based in Johannesburg. She obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (honours) in 2023.
Mdikane has participated in various group exhibitions including, ‘BOBA’ with the Meta Foundation and Friederich Naumann Foundation (2023), ‘Boundless’ with the Kalashnikovv Gallery (2023), and the ‘Vivid Dreams’ group exhibition with Ellis Art House Gallery (2024).
ARTIST STATEMENT
Mbali Nqobile Mdikane uses her art to explore themes of healing and meditation in the Black South African community post-apartheid. She incorporates visual metaphors like gold tears, candles, and spiritual symbolism to convey the central theme of healing. Mbali's artwork challenges societal norms by representing the diverse nature of black identity and aims to empower and promote visibility for black individuals.
Through dreamlike landscapes and abstract human anatomy, she creates spaces for introspection and healing, highlighting the potential for spiritual healing and the impact of everyday social interactions on emotional well-being. Mbali Mdikane's artistic journey is dedicated to personal growth, healing, and self-discovery. She practices meditation, mindfulness, and utilizes artistic expression as tools for healing and reflection.
By examining social exchanges and identifying harmful patterns, Mbali strives to promote unity and overcome challenges within individuals and communities. Through her transformative experiences and art, she encourages others to embrace their healing processes and find inner strength. Mbali is a firm believer in the power of social exchanges and actively works towards fostering healing and unity within the human race.
